Why I Stopped Sorting by Price

But the real point is not 'always buy the expensive option.' It's 'know what you're comparing.'

So Which One Should You Buy?

Not every purchase needs the specified option. If you're using the roller once on a throwaway job, the economy roller might be fine. If you know the skylight won't get direct sun, a budget panel may work. But if the material is going into something that has to last, or is visible, or touches food, buy the documented material and check it when it arrives.

My rule now is simple: buy to the specification, not just to the price. If a vendor won't send a data sheet, that's a red flag. If their 'standard grade' means something different from your 'standard grade', ask what it is in writing. The 12-point checklist I created after my third mistake has saved us an estimated $8,000 in potential rework.
