Is thermoplastic polyurethane flexible?

Yes—thermoplastic polyurethane, or TPU, is inherently flexible. But “flexible” covers a lot of ground. TPU is made in durometers from around Shore 70A (soft, stretchy, almost rubber-like) up to Shore 80D (rigid, closer to ABS). The same chemical family can produce a thin film for inflatables or a hard board for industrial trays. Thickness changes the feel too: a 0.015" film is bendy even at a harder durometer, while a 0.125" sheet is noticeably stiffer even at a soft durometer. So if someone asks “is thermoplastic polyurethane flexible?”, the honest answer is “which grade and which thickness?”

For my own orders, I learned this the hard way. I once specified “flexible TPU” without checking the durometer, and got a roll that was stiffer than the PVC we replaced. If the part needs to flex, absorb impact, or resist abrasion, polyurethane is usually the better route. Both can be supplied as films or coatings, but PTFE is often sold as a coating or a machined solid, while polyurethane also comes as thermoplastic sheet (TPU) or castable resin. They're not interchangeable. And when a supplier says “Teflon brand,” ask for the spec sheet—because “Teflon” by itself doesn't tell you the form, coating thickness, or how it's applied.

What is Loba polyurethane?

“Loba polyurethane” is one of those terms that sends me down a rabbit hole. Loba is a brand name—most often associated with wood flooring coatings, from what I've seen. So if a supplier says “Loba polyurethane,” they might be talking about a branded floor finish, not a bulk sheet for thermoforming. Worth clarifying.

In the plastic sheet world, “polyurethane” can appear as a film, sheet, or coating. Loba's products are typically water-based polyurethane coatings for flooring, not extruded plastic sheets. If you're looking for a raw material, you probably want to ask for “thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film” or “cast polyurethane sheet.” I'm not 100% sure Loba even makes industrial sheet—my experience with that name is in flooring. Don't hold me to this, but I'd verify the product form before sending a sample request. The term alone doesn't tell you whether it's an adhesive, a coating, or a sheet.

Does 3M Super Fast Plastic Repair work on plastic sheets?

I've used 3M Super Fast Plastic Repair on small cracks and broken tabs in plastic parts. It's a two-part adhesive that sets quickly, and for minor repairs on flexible or semi-rigid plastic it works well. But “works” has limits. It's not a structural repair for something under heavy load, and it won't survive thermoforming temperatures. If you're repairing a scratch or a hairline crack in PVC or PET sheet, it can buy time. For a production part that needs to hold stress, you might need a weld, a new piece, or a different adhesive altogether.

There's also a difference between “repair” and “bonding.” The 3M product is marketed as a repair compound, which means it fills gaps and can be sanded.   • Hardness if relevant—especially TPU.
  • Thickness tolerance and roll width.
  • Surface finish (gloss, matte, textured, anti-fog).
  • Recyclability claim details—because FTC Green Guides require claims to be substantiated.
  • Minimum order quantity and lead time in writing.

I know “recyclability” is buzzwordy. But according to FTC guidelines (ftc.gov), environmental claims like “recyclable” must be truthful and not misleading. If a supplier says the sheet is recyclable, ask what recycling stream accepts it. It's a small question, but it prevents a bigger compliance problem later. (And it filters out suppliers who say whatever they think you want to hear.)
